Belt Testing for eligible students at Black Belt Martial Arts Hornsby
Testing at BBMA takes place twice during a normal term:
Progress Check Halfway through the term, if you have enough stripes (3 for Li’l Dragons and 7 for other students) you will undertake a progress check (Stripe Test). The purpose of the progress check is to make sure each student is progressing on schedule. After a successful progress check you will receive a silver stripe on your belt.
Belt Test/Pre-Test The second test is more formal, takes place before graduation (during a designated belt testing week) and assesses you for your next coloured belt.
To be eligible to test for your next belt you must:
Already have one silver stripe on your belt, plus at least 7 black stripes (or 3 stripes for Li’l Dragons).
Arrive on time to class during the Belt Test period. If you arrive late to a test class, you are welcome to train but will be unable to test.
To be assessed for your next belt you must attend the entire class.
After a successful pre-test you will receive another silver stripe on your belt. You are then ready to attend a Graduation, where belts and level promotions are formally awarded.
Please note, there is no ‘automatic’ progression through the belt system. Prior to grading to a new belt you will be required to demonstrate:
An acceptable standard of attitude, behaviour, effort, courtesy, and skill
The required level of fitness o Understanding of, and competency in, the curriculum for your current grade. This is best achieved with regular and consistent attendance.
If we believe you would benefit from additional training/practice, and therefore staying on your current belt a little longer, your instructor will advise you to test again at an appropriate time in the future
Has your membership been 'on hold’ for any part of this term?
Students who suspend their membership with BBMA:
Are not eligible to ‘catch up’ on classes missed while their membership was inactive (ie while they were on hold and not paying tuition)
Are not eligible to grade in any term where their membership was on hold. This means students returning from hold will not participate in testing or grading, following a membership suspension. Suspending your membership will delay your belt and grading progress.
